Livezey Homestead Wissahickon Park The Great Mill

Glen Fern & Livezey Homestead Reimagined

You are not going to find many pictures of the Livezey Homestead beside the house. The house is still on the site and I believe it is owned by the City of Philadelphia. I did learn some very interesting information on this learning journey. John Livezey owned two mills. Across the Wissahickon, he owned a good amount of land. I will get into that on another page. The mill ruins at this site is what you want to see. Most people don't realize that there was a covered bridge at the Homestead. From what I have heard, it was the largest covered bridge going across the Wissahickon. Is this picture above accurate? I am sure the experts would call me out on a lot of details. The locations and looks of the mill, bridge, and buildings are off. I had to imagine it in my head. I wanted to give a general idea of what I had thought out. I decided to make a page just on the bridge if you have any interest. Please check it out here. I also noticed that John Livezey owned land across the water. You have to look at the map from 1868. It shows another mill that looks to be owned by the Livezey family. The map also shows a Vineyard. I would be very interested in learning about the old winemaking techniques on the Wissahickon.
